I read the first chapter of 1 Nephi in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon starts off in 600 BC, in Jerusalem. It is written by Nephi, the son of Lehi, whose father is a prophet. Lehi has a vision of the Savior, and sees the destruction of Jerusalem. Lehi did write about his visions, but Nephi wrote an abridgement of those prophecies. He didn’t know why he was doing this, but he knew that he needed to do it.
Little did Nephi know that 2200 years later, his writings would come forth in our time. Lehi’s writings were translated, but they were lost. So, without Nephi’s faithful abridgement of his father’s writings, we wouldn’t have this record of a prophet who received a vision that Jerusalem would be eventually destroyed, which it was. Think about how wonderful it is to have such a wonderful event of this important milestone in history!
