In 1 Nephi chapter 7, Lehi tells his sons that they need to go back to Jerusalem, because his sons need wives. Lehi is inspired to tell his sons to persuade Ishmael and his family to come and join them. The young men successfully persuade Ishmael and his family to leave Jerusalem.
Nephi credits the Spirit of the Lord for their success. He does not claim the credit for himself. What a humble person! This is a lesson for me, that when I am successful, I need to credit the Lord more often than I do. He is really the total, true, source of all of my successes. I thank Him for all that I have.
As the sons of Nephi are bringing Ishmael’s family back to Lehi’s tent. Nephi’s brothers, Laman and Lemuel, and some of Ishmael’s family, rebel against those who want to leave Jerusalem. This rebellion was so violent that Nephi was almost killed!
Ultimately, the turmoil was calmed. The rebellious humbled themselves, and they all returned to Lehi’s tent; and Lehi, in gratitude, offered up sacrifices to the Lord, for their safe return. Again, the Lord was responsible for their success.
