Lesson From The Scriptures: Remember The Lord

All of the historical books of scripture end in disaster. At the end of the Old Testament, the people of Jerusalem are taken over by invaders. The New Testament does not end much better, for all of the Apostles are killed off; and supposed scholars rip out pages of both the Old and the New Testaments, causing us to lose valuable scriptures.

The beginning of the Book of Mormon starts off in the middle of the Old Testament, when Zedekiah is the king, the last king of Judah. Jeremiah is the prophet at the time, and warns the people of Jerusalem to repent. Eventually, according to tradition, Jeremiah was stoned to death.

In the Book of Mormon, the prophet Lehi also tries to warn the people, but his life is also threatened. And, at the end of the Book of Mormon, many are killed off, and those who remain forget the Lord, and become savages.

For me, these are all lessons to remember the Lord in all that I do. Then, even if I die in the faith, like Jeremiah, I will at least have a clear conscience.

This is what I wrote the previous time I started the Book of Mormon:  1 Nephi Chapter 1:  Prophecy Fulfilled
