It is remarkable, and notable, that Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery had to be authorized to be baptized, be ordained to the priesthood, by an angel. This angel’s name was John, who was formerly John the Baptist in the New Testament (Joseph Smith History 1:68-73).
No other church could do this. Why not? Apparently, they did not have the authority. I am not saying that other churches did not have truth; for they do. I do not criticize other churches for doing that which they think is best. Although, other churches just did not have the authority to baptize in the Lord’s Church.
I have learned how priesthood authority is administered from the Bible. For example, Jesus said that He would “give the keys of the kingdom: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matt. 16:19). After Jesus’ death, the Apostles had the authority to ordain others (Acts 6:3-7). Although, the priesthood could not be purchased (Acts 8:18-24). So, the priesthood can only come from God and His authorized servants.
Here is what I wrote the previous time I read about A Visit From John The Baptist.
