Misty planned a very nice Family Home Evening: Papa John’s pizza; an episode of Quantum Leap; Family Scripture Study; and started memorizing ‘The Living Christ’.
I have found that the scriptures are extremely valuable to me. They describe the temperament of those who are faithful, so that I might emulate them. They teach me how others have been blessed by God. I have felt the Holy Ghost testify to me that they are true; in other words, these events actually happened!
I just found this scripture in the Old Testament:
“The law of the Lord is perfect converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” (Psalms 19:7)
To me, this verse means that by having a simple testimony of the Lord, we become wise. How profound!
I remember this scripture in the New Testament from before I first met the LDS missionaries:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Latter-day revelation has modified this verse. Instead of “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable”, the verse reads “And all Scripture given by inspiration of God, is profitable”. This means that not all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, because some scriptures were modified by supposed scholars after the death of the Jesus’ Apostles, which changed the meaning of those scriptures. Thus, we have the Book of Mormon, and modern revelation from God to clarify what the Scriptures actually mean. Thank God for the Restored Truth!
I also remember these verses from 2 Peter 1:20-21:
“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
Modern revelation has clarified what is meant by “no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” This clarification says, “no prophecy of the scriptures is given of any private will of man.” Thank God that we have a prophet upon the earth this day!
Here is what I previously wrote when I read 1 Nephi Chapter 5: Jeremiah’s Prophecies Mentioned In The Book Of Mormon.
