Obeying Out Of Gratitude

We had a nice dinner, with a chili on a half of a baked potato, and chamomile tea. Then we watched the latest episodes of ‘Last Man Standing’ and ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’. Great shows!

After that, for Family Scripture Study, we sang “The Day Dawn Is Breaking”. To access the song, we go to LDS.ORG, and go to the Hymn section, and have the player on that site play the hymn; all on our 55 inch TV! Also for Family Scripture Study, we read from the Bible and from the Book of Mormon. In the Bible, we are on 1 Samuel 18; and in the Book of Mormon, we are on 2 Nephi 14; and it just so happens that in my Personal Scripture Study, I am just a chapter before that in the Book of Mormon, in 2 Nephi 13!

This past weekend, at church, in Gospel Essentials, we talked about our motives for obeying the commandments. It really hit me that, up to recently, I have been obeying the commandments so that I could have the Spirit with me, out of fear that I would lose the presence of the Spirit if I don’t. Instead, I learned to obey the commandments because I love the Lord. I love Him for all that He has done for me, for all that I am right now, and for all that He has promised me. He has been so very generous to me. This thought reminds me of how generous my earthly father has been to me too. I am so grateful. Since I have been given much, I obey out of gratitude, appreciation, and love for my Heavenly Father, for my Elder Brother, Savior, and Redeemer, for my earthly family. I am so blessed.

This is what I wrote previously after reading 2 Nephi 13:  We’re Back!
