There were 17 of us here for the Empty Nester’s Family Home Evening. The food was great. An inspiring lesson was presented; and the company was outstanding! I am so thankful that everyone helped clean up. They made the evening so much easier.
As I read Mosiah 23, I came upon the 10th verse:
“Nevertheless, after much tribulation, the Lord did hear my cries, and did answer my prayers, and has made me an instrument in his hands in bringing so many of you to a knowledge of his truth.”
I think about one of the purposes of the Book of Mormon is to reveal what the Lord has done for our forefathers. He brought them the truth, in the King James version of the Bible, after they could not read it for centuries.
And now, I have restored truth, in the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price, and in Latter-day Revelation in General Conference talks. I have the word of God revealed to living prophets, just like the word was revealed to prophets of old.
I am supposed to follow it, and share it. That is how I am made to be an instrument in the Lord’s hands in bringing others to a knowledge of His truth.
And what is His truth? It is that Jesus lives. He was resurrected after dying on the cross. He atoned for our sins by suffering for our sins so much in the Garden of Gethsemane that he bled from every pore in His body. This event is recorded in the Bible. Unfortunately, some books of scripture have been lost, but we now have the power of God to know how to interpret scripture correctly!
In 1820, Jesus and Heavenly Father appeared to a fourteen year old boy, named Joseph Smith, and personally called Joseph Smith to be the Prophet, the Lord’s mouthpiece, to establish the Lord’s Church again. In 1823, a messenger from God, named Moroni, came to Joseph Smith and showed him where some golden plates were buried in a hillside. By the power of the Holy Ghost, this boy with third grade education translated the ancient characters. This inspired translation became the Book of Mormon. The Prophet’s mantle was passed from Joseph Smith, down through the Prophets after him, to our current Prophet, Thomas Spencer Monson. The truth is that he is the Lord’s Prophet today, in the Lord’s Church, which is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I testify that what I have said is true. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
This is what I previously wrote after reading Mosiah 23: Feel Good By Trusting In The Lord!
