This morning, I went to my doctor’s appointment, for a physical. I still need to lose weight. I also had a laundry list of other things with which I need help. We will meet again soon.
We had Elder Decker and Elder Giles over for lasagna. It was delicious! After I drove them to their next appointment, Misty and I watched “The Best Two Years”, which was a very good, and very appropriate Family Home Evening, film.
Here is a very informative passage of verses. This is King Lamoni speaking to Aaron, in Alma 22:15-16:
“What shall I do that I may have this eternal life of which thou hast spoken? Yea, what shall I do that I may be born of god, having this wicked spirit rooted out of my breast, and receive his Spirit, that I may be filled with joy, that I may not be cast off at the last day? Behold, said he, I will give up all that I possess, yea, I will forsake my kingdom, that I may receive this great joy.
But Aaron said unto him: If thou desirest this thing, if thou wilt bow down before God, yea, if thou wilt repent of all thy sins, and will bow down before God, and call on his name in faith, believing that ye shall receive, then shalt thou receive the hope which thou desirest.”
Those verses plainly explain how one achieves eternal life, which is life with God. To me, what is explained here is how works and faith fit together in the Plan of Salvation. For me to have eternal life, I must confess and repent of my sins; and then the Atonement of Jesus Christ, His suffering and sacrifice for me, pays for my shortcomings, so I may live again with God.
This is exactly what is explained in Acts 2: 37-39:
“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Then Peter said unto them Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive he gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
One must repent, bring forth works, with faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ, to receive the promised blessings.
This is what I previously wrote after reading Alma 22: Repenting Again And Again
