We had 17 people in our home for Empty Nester’s Family Home Evening! It was such a joy to have everyone over, and to share our wonderful home. The Spirit was so strong. It was a wonderful evening. Gordon Lake gave a great lesson about some Indians in Alberta, Canada. Then, after everyone had left, the missionaries, Elders Roundy and Hunt, came over and we talked. What nice way to end a very nice evening.
Tonight, what wonderful verses I read about how the Lord delivers the faithful. For this to happen, obedience is required, with exactness:
“yea, and they did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness; yea, and even according to their faith it was done unto them” (Alma 57:21)
And what was done unto them?
“and now, their preservation was astonishing to our whole army, yea, that they should be spared while there was a thousand of our brethren who were slain. And we do justly ascribe it to the miraculous power of God, because of their exceeding faith in that which they had been taught to believe – that there was a just God, and whosoever did not doubt, that they should be preserved by his marvelous power.” (Alma 57:26)
A similar miracle occurred in the Old Testament:
“The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skillful in war, were four an forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war.
And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.
And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.” (1 Chronicles 5:18-20)
This is what I previously wrote after reading Alma 57: Obeying With Exactness
