The Importance Of Building The Lord’s Church

Last night, for Family Home Evening, we watched some Bible videos on LDS.ORG about the Saviors life. We watched the one on His resurrection and His baptism. They were both moving and impressive, and helped us to appreciate and to imagine what actually happened at those two extremely important events in human history. We have watched other videos on that same site. They are short and very well done, and, of course, scripturally accurate. It was neat to see how the Holy Ghost was depicted as falling like a dove on Jesus after He was baptized. On a previous occasion, it was neat to see the angel comforting Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, as explained in Luke 22: 43:

“And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.”

I had never known about that fact until I had seen that video.

We also watched a video about the Apostles going out and strengthening the leaders of the church. The Apostles said that they get a lot out of these visits; so these efforts strengthen them as well.

In the scriptures, it says:

“Repent ye, an come unto me, and be ye baptized, and build up again my church, and ye shall be spared.” (Mormon 3: 1)

From my experience I can think that many people would be resistant to this idea. They think I am doing well, so why do I need to build up the church? Well, how are your associates doing? Do you have anyone around you who are having problems? Marital or health problems? Problems raising children? Financial problems? Or, any other problems? We might be doing well, and that is wonderful, but we need to help each other, because we are all God’s children, and we need to work together; because someday, we might have a problem, and then we might be asking for help. Those whom we have helped will then be helping us. All of us are eventually going to grow old, and then we will be the one who is need of aid. Then, we will be the ones in need of help. Building up others, who are also God’s children, is building up the church, because the church is composed of God’s children, who believe in Him; and if they don’t yet believe in Him, then maybe they don’t understand, and need to be informed about what He has done for them. So, they don’t realize that they are children of God, and that His church is again on this earth; and that church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This is what I previously wrote after reading Mormon 3:  The Gathering Of The Twelve Tribes Is Now Taking Place
