A Prayer For Humble Self-Confidence

This evening, for Family Home Evening, we watched “Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration”. Then, I watched “Treasure In Heaven: The John Tanner Story”.

I think about the courage that others have, to share the gospel, and I have not had that humble boldness. I pray that I may, for I have been truly blessed. Others share the joys in their lives, and I don’t share that which brings me the most joy, for fear that I may offend. I pray that I may have the love in my heart, the gentleness and kindness, to impress on others what I know to be true.

I know that my Savior loves me, so much that He atoned for my sins, so that I may be forgiven, if I repent. I know that reaping the blessings from this atonement is more important than anything else in this world; because it is necessary for my eternal happiness. Without it, I would be wandering aimlessly, trying to find my purpose in life.

Now, I know my purpose, and that is to share with others, for as long as I live, my testimony, which I have witnessed by the power of the Holy Ghost, that God lives, because I have felt His Spirit. Because I have felt His Spirit, I know that Heavenly Father and Joseph Smith came to a 14 year old boy, whose name is Joseph Smith, as an answer to prayer. The purpose of that prayer was to find out which church was the Church of Jesus Christ.

Joseph Smith was told that the Church had been taken from the earth; but it was going to be restored. I do know that the Bible is the true word of God, as long as it is interpreted correctly. It tells of the prophecies of the coming of Christ, and His mortal ministry, and His atonement.

Later, Joseph Smith was told, by an angel, Moroni, that some golden plates were buried in a nearby hill. Those plates also testified of the divinity of Christ, because they described His visit to the Americas after His resurrection. Some years later, Joseph Smith was given the power to translate those ancient plates. That translation became the Book of Mormon. I know that it is true, because I have read it; and the Spirit has testified to me that it is a true account of the ancient inhabitants of this continent.

When Joseph Smith was visited by God, he was called to be the Lord’s mouthpiece, His Prophet. That authority has been transferred down to our current Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, who now leads the Lord’s true Church, by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

May I be a more confident witness, and share these truths more often. I pray for the Lord’s guidance as I do.
